The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
