The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
