Iconic Singer Barry Manilow to Undergo a Procedure for Lung Cancer.

The singer has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with a cancerous growth in his lung and is set to have a surgical procedure.

Early-Stage Diagnosis

The 82-year-old singer, known for a string of upbeat chart-toppers from "Mandy" has made him one of pop music’s cherished entertainers, will have a procedure to extract a portion of his lung in an effort to fight off the disease, which is detected early.

“As many of you know, I recently suffered from six weeks of a bronchial infection followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

“Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage for my residency, my attentive medical team requested an MRI just to ensure that all was clear.

“The MRI detected a tumor on my left side that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a fantastic physician) that it was caught so early.”

Rescheduled Shows

He has rescheduled a number of upcoming live performances, but stated he would be on stage again by mid-February for his long-running engagement in Las Vegas.

He added: “The physicians do not believe it has traveled and I’m taking tests to verify their assessment. So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just home remedies and classic TV.

“I’m counting the days until I return to my second home for our Vegas run for our February love-themed shows.”

Decades in the Spotlight

Manilow is now in the 16th year of a concert series at the Westgate Las Vegas. The singer has spent decades in the limelight and publicly identified as gay in 2017, after marrying his partner of many years, Garry Kief confidentially in 2014.

The duo were in a discreet romance for over 35 years. Last year, Manilow discussed how important Kief had been to him during his ascent to stardom in the 1970s.

“As my career exploded, it was just overwhelming. And, you know, returning to an lonesome hotel suite, you can find yourself in a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re by yourself evening after evening,” he said.

“But I met Garry right around when it was exploding. And I was spared from having to go back to those lonesome rooms. I had a partner to be vulnerable with or to share joys with.

“I hope that young people don’t have to go back to those rooms by themselves, because you might succumb to pitfalls. I never did. But it was pretty lonely until I met Garry. And then it was joyful.”
